Geography of the khmer empire |
The climate that they lived in, were perfect conditions for the agriculture. They used produce as a source of nutrients and trade. The heart of the agriculture system was Tonle Sap lake. The lake provided water for the production of rice, because produce was key to their survival, the lakes and water system were a very important aspects of the kingdom.
An ability the Angkor people had was their ability to control and direct water the waters, they used this very much to their advantage as they were able to harvest more produce, this in return helped the empire prosper economically.
Water was a essential part of living, as it was the life blood of the empire. The farmers were smart and planted the ideal plants that are recommended for the current conditions, rice grew best in shallow, slow moving water. As Khmer empire is situated in asia, the climate there would have been a hot and humid environment. The people in the khmer empire must of adjusted to these conditions. Their clothing, houses and buildings must have been constructed in a certain way for it to suit the environment. The clothing, resources and buildings reflected the climate that they lived in. The aqueducts that were created for the benefit of kingdom eventually led to the demise of the empire as it was exploited, enemies used this to their advantage to gain access to the empire |

Type: Primary Source: Google Maps I used google maps by making observation of the surrounding areas, as I am taking notes and taking into account the location of the Khmer Empire. Source: Painting Type: Secondary Source I have used a painting, I would consider this as a less reliable source because it comes from someone else’s perspective and it might e a biased opinion. This makes it an unreliable as it does not capture the whole image and it might also be altered. |
